So, for my first official blog I thought I'd give a brief (loosely used) history of our family.
Matt
Matt is originally from Abilene and moved around a little before finally settling in China Spring (outside of Waco). After graduating, he gave college and college football a brief go and then enlisted into the Army in 2002. He served four years active duty in the Army Infantry with one tour in OIF. After the Army, he gave school and football another go and still decided, "not for me!" He ALWAYS talked about being a fireman since he was a child and now... SAFD! I've never seen him happier- job wise ;)
Me
Born and raised in Waco. Wasn't brave enough to venture to far from home just yet so I went to UMHB (go CRU!) Have to say sorry to my poor dad who begged me to go to his (and his WHOLE family's Alma Mater) LSU. After graduating, I moved to San Antonio to start what I thought would be a career in Health Care Administration. Only to find out.... I hated being behind a desk. My heart is really in patient care. So now, nursing school it is for me, to graduate in 2011.
Us!
We became acquainted through mutual friends right after high school. Passed each other here and there along the way until Matt came home from Iraq for a couple of weeks. We hung out his entire time home and well.... the rest is history. While it wasn't our intention in the beginning, we started a relationship oceans apart. Emailing and the occasional phone call kept us going for a few months until he finished his tour and went back to Ft. Lewis, WA. The next year and a half was grueling with once a month weekend visits and HOURS of phone calls! After a three year courtship, we became engaged in 2007. Married in May '08. We welcomed our first born, Baby Abram as my nieces call him, in July 09.
Only 6 months old and spoiled and already has both of us wrapped around his tiny little finger. Amazement by such a tiny little wonder takes up most our days now. The occasional Netflix after little man's bedtime is as close to a date night as we get now. Lord only knows what the future holds but if the last 5 1/2 years is any indication of what's to come, then I know we will enjoy every minute of the ride.
